A great outdoor space isn't just about building a deck or throwing up a pergola — it's about creating an environment you actually want to spend time in. At VIKING, our in-house designer works with you from the start to understand your lifestyle, your backyard and your brief before a single post hole is dug.
Servicing Wollongong, Shellharbour, Thirroul, Kiama and across the Illawarra, we manage the entire build in-house — design, construction, landscaping and final fit-out. One point of contact, no surprises.
What we build
Pergolas
Insulated flyover roofs, open-beam timber structures, steel and powder-coated aluminium — engineered for Illawarra weather and built to last.
Decking
Composite, Millboard, EKO and hardwood. Framed, clad and finished properly — with integrated seating, planters and steps where the design calls for it.
Outdoor Kitchens
Custom joinery, polished concrete benchtops, integrated BBQ, bar fridge and sink. Designed to be used, not just admired.
Fire Pits & Seating
Corten steel fire bowls, brick and stone surrounds, custom built-in bench seating and stepped terrace areas.
Paving
Limestone, sandstone, bluestone and porcelain. Laid on a proper base with correct drainage — no lifting, no cracking.
Retaining Walls
Sandstone, concrete block and timber. Structural, engineered where required, and finished to complement the overall design.
Landscaping
Planting schemes, garden beds, turf, irrigation and lighting. We don't stop at the structure — we finish the whole picture.
Fencing & Screening
Hardwood slat fencing, privacy screens, picket fences and gates. Custom built to match your style and boundary requirements.
Recent projects
Como, NSW
A complete backyard transformation — from bare, unlevelled block to a fully realised outdoor room. The insulated flyover pergola features a custom glass skylight that floods the covered area with natural light. Limestone paving connects seamlessly to sandstone retaining walls, with tropical landscaping and a hardwood bench seat completing the space.
Jannali, NSW
A full backyard overhaul replacing an overgrown, deteriorating yard with a multi-level composite deck, bespoke outdoor kitchen with polished concrete benchtop, integrated BBQ and bar fridge, open-beam pergola and custom hardwood screening fence. The deck steps connect the upper entertaining area to the lower yard.
Coledale, NSW
A steeply sloped front yard in Coledale transformed into a series of terraced outdoor spaces. The upper level features a Millboard composite deck with built-in seating, stepping down to a brick-paved terrace centred around a corten steel fire bowl. Tiered landscaping with drought-tolerant planting fills the retaining wall beds throughout.
Gymea, NSW
A substantial elevated deck in EKO composite decking anchored by a bold steel-framed open-beam pergola. The balustrade features hardwood posts with stainless wire infill — clean lines, built to last. The upper entertaining area sits under the pergola structure, shaded and usable year-round.
Engadine, NSW
A sloped Engadine backyard transformed into a multi-level entertaining space. The main deck is laid in hardwood with a dedicated spa platform enclosed by frameless glass balustrade and floor-to-ceiling cedar screening. A recycled brick path winds down through the lower garden beds to connect the levels, with boulder features, box hedging and specimen plantings completing the landscape.
